On behalf of the Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, the Honourable Christian Paradis, Minister of Public Works and Government Services and Member of Parliament (Megantic-L'Erable), today announced funding for Editions Nouvelles (Production Edition ASMS).

"Our Government is proud to renew its support to the Canadian publishing industry for five years," said Minister Moore. "We are ensuring that Canadians continue to have access to a large variety of titles that reflect their lives and interests."

"Editions Nouvelles, located in the heart of Montreal in the Rosemont-La Petite-Patrie district, produces a half-dozen high-quality titles in the education field every year," said Minister Paradis. "This funding will help them to better fulfill their mission once again this year."

"We would like to thank the Government of Canada, which is helping us carry out and support our publishing and distribution activities in French-speaking Canada," said Martine Selva, President and Executive Director of Editions Nouvelles. "This contribution allows us to increase our visibility and the visilibity of our authors, as well as to remain competitive."

The Government of Canada has provided funding of $49,490 under the Aid to Publishers (http://www.pch.gc.ca/pgm/padie-bpidp/dem-app/atp/atp-eng.cfm) component of the Book Publishing Industry Development Program (BPIDP) (http://www.pch.gc.ca/pgm/padie-bpidp/index-eng.cfm), which seeks to support the Canadian book industry in building the skills and tools necessary to ensure its ongoing strength, viability, and capacity to invest in the development and promotion of Canadian books. As part of its renewal, BPIDP has been streamlined and renamed the Canada Book Fund (http://www.pch.gc.ca/pgm/flc-cbf/index-eng.cfm) to reflect the evolution of its role from being the supporter of a developing industry to reinforcing a mature industry that brings Canadian books to readers everywhere. Next year's contributions will be provided through the Canada Book Fund.
